The organization Chance 2001 e.V. has set up an internship exchange program with Berlin and its 17 sister cities. Young people get the opportunity to work abroad for 1-3 months. Internships are offered in many different occupations. Each participant will stay with a host familiy to gain insight in everyday life and culture of the host country. The program started in Windhoek (Namibia), followed by an exchange with Los Angeles (USA), Berlin’s first sister city, and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Meanwhile contacts to the European sister cities have been established. The first interns from Berlin resp. to Berlin already travelled in November 2001. In 2002 the organization could arrange 10 internships. Young people between the age of 20 - 35 can apply for the program. The awarding of the internships, as well as the selection of host families, is carried out by Chance 2001 e.V. Recipients pay for their travel to the host country. Food, lodging and a monthly pocket money is provided. The creators of the program are giving this opportunity for a true exchange of interest between cultures. Participants should respect foreign customs and manners and be tolerant towards their host country and host family.
